Feeling unsure today?

Tell me more, tell me more [like does he have a car?]

When you let your dreams be louder than your fears, you will astound yourself.

Unsure of what dream to pursue?

Don’t worry, I’ve got you!

Let me tell you, if you’re feeling unsure about your dreams right now, that’s a good thing.

The awareness is so important, and the fact that you’ve landed here, means that you want to move forward. I love that for you!

So I’m going to say something that I’ve said to many clients: sometimes when we’re unsure about something, we are secretly sure about it, but we want someone else to give us permission to go there. It’s a little trick our mind plays.

If that’s you…if you have an inkling of what you want, deep down, GO. FOR. IT!! You don’t need anyone’s permission to pursue the dreams in your heart, even if those dreams feel out of reach or out of character. And it’s super important that you follow your heart, and not someone else’s opinion because that can lead to unfulfillment.

If that’s not you, and you’re like, “Erica, I really am unsure right now,” don’t worry, I’ve got you, too. There’s an exercise I do with my clients during their very first coaching session to help them figure this out. If you’ve read Meant For This, you’ll be familiar with it because I talk all about it in Chapter 1 (check out page 12 in the paperback, or download the first chapter for free). The exercise is called The Dream List.

It’s as simple as it sounds: make a list of everything you dream of. Like, everything. Don’t hold back. The best way to start if you’re feeling unsure is to fill in the blank for this phrase:

It would be really cool if…

Like, “it would be really cool if I starred in a movie.” Or, “it would be really cool if I lived in Hawaii.” It can be big, it can be small, just don’t sensor yourself. Write it all down.

And the most important part of this exercise is knowing that

No dream is impossible. No dream is ridiculous. If you want it, you can have it.

What if it turned out better than you imagined?

Unsure of what steps to take?

Don’t worry, I’ve got you!

If you know what dream you’re pursuing but you’re not sure what steps to take, I have 3 things for you:

1 // Reverse Engineer Your Dream

Working backwards, reverse engineer the foundational steps that you need to take to make this dream happen.

For example, let’s say your dream is to win an Oscar. Take a piece of paper and put that at the top. What’s the thing right before that would have to happen for you to win an Oscar? Get nominated. Ok, let’s go down another rung on the ladder. To get nominated, you have to act (or direct, write, etc.) in a movie worthy of an Oscar nomination. To book that job, you’d have to audition, write the script, be asked to direct, etc. And so on, and so on.

If you’ve read Meant For This, you may be familiar with this exercise (page 91 in the paperback). Click the button below to download your Reverse Engineer map and get to work!

2 // The Rule of 10

If you have no idea what would even go on that map, use the Rule of 10. The Rule of 10 is simple: ask 10 people who have already done what you want to do. Through cold email, social media, or a connection, ask something like, “Hey, John, what’s the first step I should take?” (If you can’t ask them because they are famous or something, you can research their path on your own.) Why 10 people? Well, you’ll either see a pattern emerge, or you’ll get 10 different answers. That’s not a bad thing—there is no one way to make any dream happen, and people often have their own magical, winding path. Either way, you’ll get helpful information.

3 // Take Inventory of Your Fears

Sometimes we don’t know what step to take because we’re scared to take whatever that step is. Maybe we secretly do know the next step, deep down. Or maybe we don’t know where to look. Or maybe we get paralyzed in procrastination.
All of these can stem from fears holding us back. Even if those fears are deep, deep, down and you don’t even realize they’re there.

The thoughts in our subconscious rule the show. So, if there’s a part of you that believes you’re not good enough, your subconscious will sabotage your dream by making you procrastinate or avoid taking risks, etc. We all have those fears, so don’t worry, you’re in good company! In order to make your dreams a reality, you have to flip those fears into affirmations to give your subconscious new beliefs. (Check out page 24 of Meant For This for more on this.) Download the Fear Transformation PDF and start the process. You could be one fear away from clarity and results.

You wouldn’t be given a dream unless you had the capacity to fulfill it.

Jack Canfield

Unsure of your future?

Don’t worry, I’ve got you!

I feel you, my friend. The unknown can be a bitch and I’ve felt unsure a million times. Blind faith, when you have no proof, is one of the hardest things to have.

But that’s part of the point of pursuing a dream. To see how capable you are. To see how deeply you can believe in yourself. To see how you persevere against all odds. Having faith is part of the process.

Here’s the thing: I am SURE about your future. Because:

Your success is inevitable.

That is the mindset that achieves dreams. You have to know, deep in your heart, that you can make this happen.

How? When?

That’s not for you to know. Let it unfold however it unfolds and understand that the universe has a bigger imagination than you do. So it can give you things beyond your wildest dreams, if you let it.
